Don't Mess Up YOUR LinkedIn Chance!

Don't Mess Up YOUR LinkedIn Chance!
Jerome Knyszewski.

If there’s one thing worse than not using the features set out for you
by a site or online networking platform, it’s using them incorrectly.

Signing up on LinkedIn is your first step to building a strong professional online presence
but only you can make it really work if you follow the tips and guidelines set out for you.

LinkedIn Headline
Your headline is the first thing that people will see after your picture of course. You need to make it count by steering clear of those old clichés but still making use of the right keywords.
Keywords improve the search-ability of your profile and increase your chances of being found
so put some extra special thought and care into this.
If you leave your headline blank, LinkedIn will use your current job title as your headline
so you need to complete this field as soon as you set up your account.
You can change it at a later stage if need be.

LinkedIn Groups
The Groups feature on LinkedIn is highly underutilized and in some cases abused.
Some people see it as a way for them to spam others with their advertisements
and self promoting posts. Others join various groups and fail to even take part.
Either way, this is not the way to use the Groups feature.
You can join up to 50 different groups and you can leave them whenever you like.
Now, just because you CAN join 50 groups does not mean that you should.

Managing a positive presence on that many groups is down right time consuming
and you won’t have much time for anything else. Not to mention how overloaded your mailbox
will become if you don’t choose the correct mail notification settings for each group!

LinkedIn Groups can help you meet new people, make meaningful connections
and really show people your skills and expertise. In order to achieve this, you need to
stick to the rules of each group you join. You also need to upload posts that are designed
to help others and not just promote yourself or your business.
You must take part regularly but don’t try to control any of your groups
(unless it’s your group that you are supposed to monitor and mediate).

Other Forms of Media
Your LinkedIn profile is no longer a static, boring page. You can incorporate all sorts of
different media from videos and images to slideshows and more!
Your competitors could very well already be using rich media to better their profiles.
So if you are ignoring this feature, it’s time you gave your profile a serious make over!

LinkedIn Endorsements
Endorsing somebody you know on LinkedIn is a great way of building up their profile
and will generally encourage them to show you the same courtesy.

Endorsements are discussed and argued about, dissed and bashed, most agree that they are
pretty much unreliable and useless. Linkedin may even pull that feature soon.
In the meantime they are still there, make the most out of them.

Use them to "ping" your connections: when you endorse them, they will receive a notification,
it will help you get in front of their eyes and on their mind, reminding them that you exist.

Endorsements are a great way to nurture your network!

Profile Picture
Like your headline, your profile picture can seriously affect your success on LinkedIn.
Your picture should be a recent photo of yourself (not your family, pets or some nice landscape).
It should be clear, professional looking
and your face should cover about 80% of the complete image.
Face forward or slightly to the left so that your profile image is “looking” at the content on your profile. Think of the kind of image you want to portray and then plan your profile photo shoot. Remember to ask somebody to take the picture for you or set your camera up on a tripod
with a timer so that it doesn’t look like a cheap “selfie”.
