Wealthy People Save Money Like This

Lavender and (yellow) viper grass.

Wealthy People Save Money Like This

There’s no one among us who does not like to have more money.
If you sometimes wonder about how the rich and successful have so much of it though,
you need to read on. We have compiled a list of hacks that you can apply in your daily life
to save money the way wealthy people do.

1. Be careful about small expenses
All of us are usually careful about making big investments and huge purchases.
However, we tend to spend recklessly on seemingly small expenses.
But of course, these small expenses can amass to a big amount.
As Suze Orman rightly pointed out, “Look everywhere you can to cut a little bit
from your expenses. It will all add up to a meaningful sum.”

2. Focus on the future
It is very easy to spend money for getting something that we like but at the end of the day,
you will end up spending everything no matter how well you earn.
Shift your focus to the future instead of getting satisfaction in the present.
“You can be young without money, but you can’t be old without it.” – Tennessee Williams

3. Don’t buy unnecessary things to make an impression on people
Although we all like to have good feedback from our peers and friends regarding the things
we own, we need to set a limit for us. You should buy things that you need
but don’t just buy those to impress others. Otherwise the sky isn’t the limit for buying things!
“Stop buying things you don’t need, to impress people you don’t even like.” – Suze Orman

4. Put things in black and white
There are so many expenditures in today’s world that you would end up without any savings
if you don’t plan and budget your money; the inflows and the outflows.
Wealthy people know where their money comes from and where it goes.
An Excel sheet can really help you in this regard.
“A budget is telling your money where to go, instead of wondering where it went.”
- John C. Maxwell

5. Work hard
Unlike the common perception that wealthy people just have fun and enjoy their life,
the reality is that they work harder than the common person, at least in the most productive age. So try to increase your income, and when it gets increased,
save a larger portion of it than ever before.
“I like business and the truth is I save way more than I spend. I invest. I plan for the future.
I have a special eye for opportunities and work harder than anyone might expect.”
– Sofia Vergara

6. Save a huge portion of your income
Again, we think that wealthy people are always splurging and spending on things.
No, they are not. That is why they remain wealthy.
They always save a portion of their income. So save a large proportion of what you get.
This will ensure that you do not run out of money at any point in time.
“Save one-third, live on one-third and give away one-third.” – Angelina Jolie

7. Make the most of sales and bargains
Just like us, the rich love to get the highest value of money.
They always try to look for getting more value through finding great deals,
bargains and discounts.
“Why should you pay more for something that someone else is paying less for?”
- Sarah Michelle Gellar

8. Invest your savings wisely
We usually ignore the small amounts but such tiny amounts can add up to a substantial sum.
If you have more, it is even better. To top it, if you invest the money properly,
you will be amazed at the result yourself.
“A penny here, and a dollar there, placed at interest, goes on accumulating, and in this way
the desired result is attained. It requires some training, perhaps, to accomplish this economy,
but when once used to it, you will find there is more satisfaction in rational saving
than in irrational spending.”  - P. T. Barnum

9. Practice the Millionaire’s Formula
A common man’s way of thinking is usually that he saves
after meeting the necessary expenditures.
A wealthy person’s style is the opposite: we like to call this the Millionaire’s Formula.
Here’s how it goes: upon receiving your income, put a certain percentage towards giving back
to the community, and also a certain percentage for your investments for your financial goals.
Only spend what is left.
“Do not save what is left after spending, but spend what is left after saving.” – Warren Buffet

10. Close leakages
The wealthy don’t ever pay any unnecessary charges.
They remain very careful about the fees and charges that can be avoided.
“Beware of little expenses; a small leak will sink a great ship.” – Benjamin Franklin
Follow these simple, practical tips in your life and you will be able to see the difference yourself. Happy savings!

How Successful People Stay Productive (and Why I Keep My Calendar Empty)

Ground elder (white) and green alkanet.

Derek Halpen
New business owners think that to get ahead, they have to keep saying "yes"
- to meeting new people, to interviews, to helping out a friend or colleague, etc.
But the year I said "no" to almost everything
was one of my most productive and profitable years in business.
In this video, I show you why it's so important to take back your calendar and learn to say no.
I'll also give you some tools and tips
for staying focused on the most important parts of your business.
After your watch the video, I've got a question for you: Do you find these tips helpful?
Which are you most excited to implement? Let me know in the comments here:

A Simple Guide to Using Hashtags on Twitter [Infographic]

Perennial cornflower.

A Simple Guide to Using Hashtags on Twitter [Infographic]
Lindsay Kolowich

I have a love-hate relationship with hashtags on Twitter.
On the one hand, they're a useful way to tie different conversations into one stream.
When it comes to following a news item, entering a contest, or figuring out out what's going on
in your favorite sports game, they can be super helpful -- and sometimes even fun.
On the other hand, their misuse drives me crazy.
Like when #people #hashtag #every #word #of #their #tweet.
And don't get me started on #FollowFriday.
When used properly, though, hashtags can be a powerful marketing tool
in helping drive brand recognition,
boost conversions, and positively impact customer loyalty.
It explains how powerful hashtags can be for social media marketing,
the basics of how to use one, and a few best practices.

Don't Mess Up YOUR LinkedIn Chance!

Don't Mess Up YOUR LinkedIn Chance!
Jerome Knyszewski.

If there’s one thing worse than not using the features set out for you
by a site or online networking platform, it’s using them incorrectly.

Signing up on LinkedIn is your first step to building a strong professional online presence
but only you can make it really work if you follow the tips and guidelines set out for you.

LinkedIn Headline
Your headline is the first thing that people will see after your picture of course. You need to make it count by steering clear of those old clichés but still making use of the right keywords.
Keywords improve the search-ability of your profile and increase your chances of being found
so put some extra special thought and care into this.
If you leave your headline blank, LinkedIn will use your current job title as your headline
so you need to complete this field as soon as you set up your account.
You can change it at a later stage if need be.

LinkedIn Groups
The Groups feature on LinkedIn is highly underutilized and in some cases abused.
Some people see it as a way for them to spam others with their advertisements
and self promoting posts. Others join various groups and fail to even take part.
Either way, this is not the way to use the Groups feature.
You can join up to 50 different groups and you can leave them whenever you like.
Now, just because you CAN join 50 groups does not mean that you should.

Managing a positive presence on that many groups is down right time consuming
and you won’t have much time for anything else. Not to mention how overloaded your mailbox
will become if you don’t choose the correct mail notification settings for each group!

LinkedIn Groups can help you meet new people, make meaningful connections
and really show people your skills and expertise. In order to achieve this, you need to
stick to the rules of each group you join. You also need to upload posts that are designed
to help others and not just promote yourself or your business.
You must take part regularly but don’t try to control any of your groups
(unless it’s your group that you are supposed to monitor and mediate).

Other Forms of Media
Your LinkedIn profile is no longer a static, boring page. You can incorporate all sorts of
different media from videos and images to slideshows and more!
Your competitors could very well already be using rich media to better their profiles.
So if you are ignoring this feature, it’s time you gave your profile a serious make over!

LinkedIn Endorsements
Endorsing somebody you know on LinkedIn is a great way of building up their profile
and will generally encourage them to show you the same courtesy.

Endorsements are discussed and argued about, dissed and bashed, most agree that they are
pretty much unreliable and useless. Linkedin may even pull that feature soon.
In the meantime they are still there, make the most out of them.

Use them to "ping" your connections: when you endorse them, they will receive a notification,
it will help you get in front of their eyes and on their mind, reminding them that you exist.

Endorsements are a great way to nurture your network!

Profile Picture
Like your headline, your profile picture can seriously affect your success on LinkedIn.
Your picture should be a recent photo of yourself (not your family, pets or some nice landscape).
It should be clear, professional looking
and your face should cover about 80% of the complete image.
Face forward or slightly to the left so that your profile image is “looking” at the content on your profile. Think of the kind of image you want to portray and then plan your profile photo shoot. Remember to ask somebody to take the picture for you or set your camera up on a tripod
with a timer so that it doesn’t look like a cheap “selfie”.

15 Money-Saving Strategies for Couples

No limit to growth.

15 Money-Saving Strategies for Couples
Kayla Matthews

If you and your partner have big plans coming up, whether it’s a vacation, marriage,
new house or even a child, finding ways to pinch pennies can sometimes be difficult.
However, there are some simple ideas to stretch dollars and cut corners
in order to help you meet your financial goals.
If you aren’t sure where to begin, here are 15 money-saving tips to get you started.

1. Go on Dates That Cost Next to Nothing
While going out to classy restaurants, concerts and sports games can make for amazing dates,
they can also run your bank account dry. If you’re trying to save money,
coming up with inexpensive date ideas is key. Having a dinner and movie night in,
going to see a local band at a free event, or even going for a hike are fun and cheap.

2. Sign Up For Free Customer Rewards Programs
Taking advantage of free rewards programs can help you cut corners easily.
Many media services like Netflix, Amazon Prime and Redbox offer free trials
that can help you receive free movie rentals or get you waived shipping fees.
Other types of rewards programs, which are through supermarkets or gas stations,
can help you save money every time you shop.

3. If the Time Is Right, Move In Together
If you don’t already live together and are considering it, sharing a living space
can save a huge amount of money. Not only do rent and utilities become easier to manage
when you split the cost, but many other expenses like food and gas become cheaper as well.

4. When Furnishing A New Place, Buy Used
If you’re moving into an apartment and need furniture, buying new tables and chairs
and everything in between can add up fast. Instead, bargain hunt at thrift shops, yard sales
and flea markets. With a little TLC and a coat of spray paint, a coffee table or lamp
can look like new. Or even better.

5. Consolidate Whenever Possible
To make the most of your money, consolidate expenses with your partner whenever possible.
Easy things to consolidate include cell phone bills, magazine subscriptions
and digital subscriptions.

6. Make Your Own Cleaning Supplies
Spending money on items you don’t necessarily enjoy purchasing,
like cleaning supplies, can be a bummer, especially when those expenses start to pile up.
Instead, buy natural ingredients and make your own.

7. Get Rid of Unnecessary Subscriptions
Magazine subscriptions, cable bills and online media subscriptions
are often the biggest culprits when it comes to hidden expenses.

8. Make the Most of Grocery Shopping
Buying groceries is a huge drain on money, unless you do it right.
Buy necessities (toilet paper, baking items and frozen food) on sale and in bulk.
Also, before shopping, make an airtight grocery list
so you don’t purchase anything unnecessary.

9. Take Cheaper Vacations
When possible, make your own meals and snacks instead of ordering out when you vacation.
Also, look into camping instead of pricey hotels,
or try to find a Groupon or other discount available.

10. Combine Your Finances
If you and your partner live together and share expenses, creating a joint account can help you create a budget for the items and expenses that you pay together,
and save money in the process.

11. Have Frequent Discussions About Your Goals
When making any savings plan, it’s key to account for what your future goals
are and what you’re actually saving for. By gauging what you want to have
and what you want to accomplish in the future, you can adjust your savings plan as needed.

12. Adjust Your Insurance Policy
If you pay high monthly insurance bills, you understand how much of a drain
this can put on your finances. You’re not the only couple feeling this,
as 1.7 million people declared bankruptcy in 2013 because of medical debt alone.
To help ease this load, look for ways to adjust your insurance plan so that it’s more affordable.

13. If You Have A Credit Card, Don’t Use It
If your goal is to pinch pennies and save money, stop spending with your credit card.
While it may seem like a harmless way to boost your credit score, using this piece of plastic
and becoming a little to trigger happy with it, can come with serious financial consequences.

14. Make A Debt Plan
If you and your significant other are currently in debt, making a plan to help you overcome
it efficiently is all too important. By assessing your debts together, you can more comprehensively determine the best repayment plan to reduce expensive interest
and get out of debt quicker.

15. Re-Finance Your Student Loans
Going to college wasn’t cheap, and you’re likely left with the student loans to prove it.
If you and your significant other both have a plethora of student loans,
do your best to consolidate.
Saving money can often feel like an impossible challenge. However, by making simple changes
to how you and your partner spend and save, you can grow your savings at a faster rate.
