How To Be Confident FAST! (unorthodox approach)

Santon Downham. Octagonal tower accommodates 4 ley lines.

Based on research, what's the one question almost everyone answers yes to?
Answer: Would you like to know how to be more confidence?
It's not surprising really.

Since becoming a coach I haven't worked with anyone who didn't suffer with
a lack of confidence to some extent.
Even the most outwardly confident people are racked with self doubt on occasion. Me included!
The reality is if we want success in any undertaking, or to feel comfortable
in a variety of different social situations or handle our personal
or professional relationships effectively, then confidence is essential.

Confidence is a 'felt' thing that helps shape positive behaviours and supports us
being the best we can be in everything we do. We all need self confidence to fulfil our potential.

So without spouting loads of theories, how do we be more confident?
Is it something that just happens by luck or is it something we can control?

That answer is simple.

Confidence is something we can control and in this weeks video
I'm going to show a very unorthodox on how to be confident.

PMA = Physical, Measurable, Achievable.

Any Skill You're Not Practicing Is Wasting Away

Any Skill You're Not Practicing Is Wasting Away
Eric Ravenscraft

Everyone’s heard the old adage, practice makes perfect. Practice isn’t just for building skills, though. It’s also for maintaining the ones you’ve already built.
As advice site The Art of Manliness explains,
the skills you have already built can fade over time.
Through disuse and neglect, your brain can start to forget
even the most well-practiced skills if you go a long period of time without using them.
It doesn’t happen overnight, but practicing a little bit every once in a while can stave off
the erosion of useful skills:
We often feel like we can leave parts of ourselves dormant, and they’ll just stay as they are — waiting for us to start developing them again. But the truth is that all the components
of our physical and mental make-up operate by the “use it or lose it” principle.
All of life involves swimming against the current of deterioration
— if you’re not constantly putting in the effort to advance, you’re getting swept back.

Of course, we can only choose so many skills to practice, so it may be a valid choice
to let a particular skill die off. As much as I enjoyed the game as a kid,
my skills playing Jet Force Gemini are not very practical to my adult life.
However, if you want to keep your ability to play that instrument, do that workout,
or speak that language, you should probably keep practicing even when you don’t need to.

How To Train Your Mind To Be Positive (using the 4 P's)

Tufted vetch.

In today's training video I'm going to show you how to train your mind to be positive!
The quality of your personal or professional life is largely determined by the quality
of the emotional states you live in day to day -- states like love, anger, happiness,
hopeless, fear and confidence.
There are a few things that affect the quality of your life quicker than developing a positive attitude and training your mind to be positive.
The challenge is "positive attitude" seems a bit soft, wooly, fluffy and easy to dismiss.
In the real world (especially the corporate world) "attitude" rarely carries the same weight as words like "skill" and "knowledge" and "work ethic."
Researchers (people much cleverer than me!) are proving otherwise. Learning how your mind works and how to incorporate positive thoughts and emotions can help improve many areas, including health, work, family and social relationships.
If emotions you are experiencing in any area of your life are make you miserable,
you can get in control of them. Your thinking causes you to feel certain emotions,
and your thinking is something you can control.
What you can't control are the setbacks and knock-backs life brings.
Controlling your emotions simply means that you will be able to deal with them better
because your emotions will not make the matters worse.
Being able to train your mind to be positive means that you are in control.
You are in control of how effectively you function and more importantly,
how you feel, regardless of the events around you.
Operating at your ultimate mindset will having you taking your life to the next level.
Your creative ideas will multiply.
Your abilities to achieve will multiply. Your communication with the world will multiply.
Your relationships will multiply. Everything you do, you will do that much better.
Dedicate training your mind to be positive by the day using the 4 P's (explained in the video).
It will drive you like nothing else can. Knowing that you can elevate your emotional state
at anytime is a powerful feeling. It will empower you like nothing else can.
Plus (and it's a big plus) focused positive thinking, over time, will influence your subconscious
so accessing a positive state becomes automatic.

What could be better than that!!!
Enjoy today's training.

What to Do When You Need Inspiration But It Just Won’t Come

Bad hair day.

What to Do When You Need Inspiration But It Just Won’t Come
Eric Ravenscraft

You’ve been staring at a blank page for hours. No matter how hard you think,
you just can’t make the brilliant ideas appear. It’s time to give up, and that’s okay.
As business site Entrepreneur explains, inspiration doesn’t work on a schedule (and there’s plenty of science to back that idea up). Your brain can’t be forced to come up with a stellar idea.
Trying to coerce your mind into trying, however, can hold you back.
If you want to encourage the good ideas, get comfortable with giving up:
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve stared at a blank screen, a white sheet of paper
or a media board and racked my brain for a big idea that just wouldn’t come.
Finally, I give up, plop down in a chair and say, “Screw it, I’m done.’’ It takes a while for my mind
to shut off, but when it does, that’s inevitably when the answer comes.
Any good creative knows that ideas can come at the least opportune times.
The trick is getting into the habit of allowing them to happen naturally. Sometimes that means
you just stop working for the day, give up on being “productive” and let your mind wander. Adhering to a rigid set of rules doesn’t always guarantee brilliance. Let yourself have space
to give up for a while and you may find your ideas come more naturally in a relaxed state.
Don’t forget to have a way to write them down when they happen, too.

Say Your Excuses Out Loud to Get Better at Fighting Them

Knapweed.

Say Your Excuses Out Loud to Get Better at Fighting Them
Eric Ravenscraft

If there’s one thing humans are good at (besides regulating body temperature
and manipulating objects with opposable thumbs), it’s rationalizing.
The next time you catch yourself making excuses to yourself, say them out loud.
As advice site Impossible explains, your irrational excuses are likely to sound less reasonable
once you say them out loud to yourself. Internally, you can feel like there’s a good reason
to justify breaking your diet or giving up on that habit.
Once you say it out loud, you’re more likely to face reality:

Here’s a simple trick: Say your excuses out loud.
Make a list of all the reasons why you’re NOT doing something and then say them out loud – with your mouth.
Unless the reason why you can’t do something is “a cheetah is closing in on me at 70mph
for a late brunch”, then most likely your excuses start to sound pretty stupid pretty quick
when they’re verbalized.
This self-argument is a handy way to distinguish between the excuses you have
that are legitimate, and the ones that your emotions are filling in.
No one would blame you for staying home from work because you have the flu. However, someone might think it’s dumb to max out your credit card because you’ve had a hard day.

Star Ratings Matter Just as Much as (If Not More Than) Online Reviews

Star Ratings Matter Just as Much as (If Not More Than) Online Reviews
Chris Campbell

When it comes to swaying consumers’ purchase decisions, how persuasive are online reviews?
And how attractive -- or ugly -- do online ratings make a local business look?
At a time when consumers can write Yelp reviews on pretty much anything they buy –
- and others can then read about it -- questions on the business impact of reviews and ratings
have become increasingly relevant.

Before choosing a restaurant, diners check out Yelp.
Before booking a hotel, travelers look up TripAdvisor.
Before selecting a doctor, patients take to Healthgrades or RateMDs.
New research by ReviewTrackers set out to determine how reviews and ratings
can directly influence purchases from local businesses -- in this case, restaurants.

In a three-week survey of Internet users in the U.S. with an age range of 25 to 54 years,
respondents were asked one question:
Would you eat at a restaurant with a 3-star rating?
More than one in three wouldn’t eat below four stars.
35.3 percent of survey respondents said that a 3-star rating (or below) on a 5-star scale
on platforms like Yelp, TripAdvisor, and Google would dissuade them from choosing
to eat at a particular restaurant. That represents approximately one in three diners in the US.
It’s worth noting that on Yelp, 67 percent of the 71 million reviews are 4- and 5-star reviews. The latest fact sheet released by the company also indicates that the restaurant category
generates the second-highest number of reviews, behind Yelp’s category for shopping.

Star ratings matter.
While the remaining 64.7 percent of respondents in ReviewTrackers’ survey are less picky
with where to eat, it remains clear that, for consumers and businesses alike, star ratings matter -- and are of equal importance as (if not greater than) the actual review text.
In his study “Reviews, Reputation, and Revenue: The Case of Yelp.com,"
Harvard Business School researcher Michael Luca found that a 1-star improvement on Yelp translated to anywhere from a 5 to 9 percent swing on revenues.
Furthermore, local and independent restaurants were more affected by diner reviews
and ratings than chain restaurants.
Two Berkeley economists, meanwhile, discovered that the tiniest Yelp rating change –
- a half-star improvement -- makes it 30 to 49 percent more likely that a restaurant will sell out
its seats during peak hours. “Because [the review site] collects and aggregates the experiences
of a large number of patrons,” wrote researchers Michael Anderson and Jeremy Magruder,
“Yelp provides a forum to solve asymmetric information problems
about the quality of unfamiliar restaurants.”
A Cornell University study even goes so far as to suggest that, in the eyes of consumers,
the numerical ratings are seen as an objective measure of a business’ quality.
“Oftentimes, the online rating of a business is taken as a proxy for its objective quality rating,”
wrote researchers Oussama Fadil and Jake Soloff.
“The underlying assumption is that by average ratings across users of varying tastes
and preferences, dependencies upon said factors are eliminated.”

Simply put: Star ratings matter because they serve as a useful and convenient source of information when consumers are researching a local business they’re not familiar with.
This is most evident in industries like foodservice and hospitality, where consumers
increasingly depend on review and rating sites to find places to eat.
As Luca summed up: “Restaurants are a classic example in economics where the consumer
has to make a decision based on very little information.”

Who relies more on reviews -- men or women?
Gender adds another interesting dimension to any conversation about online reviews.
According to new research by SheSpeaks, an online engagement platform,
as much as 38 percent of women said they trusted online reviews,
with 57 percent willing to spend more money on businesses
with positive reviews and high ratings.
When it comes to finding restaurants, however, differences in how men and women perceive
and use reviews are less evident. In the ReviewTrackers survey, approximately 38 percent
of male respondents said that they would not eat at a place with less than a 4-star rating,
compared to only 33 percent of female respondents.

Build a 5-star reputation.
Online reviews and ratings undoubtedly have a major impact on a business’ reputation
and, therefore, performance. This makes it critical for marketers and business owners
to apply best practices in review management.
Claim your business listings. Asserting ownership of your business listing on platforms like Yelp, Google and TripAdvisor increases your visibility and enables you to more effectively listen
and respond to what customers are saying online.
Monitor all relevant review sites. Staying on top of reviews and ratings allows you
to measure customer sentiment and provides you with valuable data that your business
can use to make customer experience and service improvements.
Respond to your customers. Management response to reviews drives engagement
and demonstrates that your business values customer feedback -- good and bad.

Generate more reviews. Build and strengthen your online reputation by raising awareness
of your business’ presence on online review sites and asking your happiest customers
to review your business.

Why Online Reputation Management Is Like Brushing Your Teeth

Why Online Reputation Management Is Like Brushing Your Teeth
Ryan Erskine

Think about why you brush your teeth.
You don’t do it because your teeth are brown and dirty.
You do it preventatively.
It’s a habit that’s good for you because it impacts your long-term health
and the look of your smile.
Now think what would happen if you waited until your teeth were gross
before you decided to start brushing. Your teeth might fall out.
You’d probably get gum disease. Your smile would be tarnished and discolored.
It might be too late to fix everything and, at the very least,
you’d have a lot of ground to make up.
Brushing your teeth is an insurance policy against all those negative outcomes.
Online reputation management (ORM) works the same way.
Many folks realize how important their online presence is only once they have a problem –
a nasty negative, an ex’s rant, a sketchy forum that sticks out like a sore thumb, etc.
We fix these results, but it can take months and months, or even years.
And that can be a hard pill to swallow.
But ORM can be just as effective -- even more so -- when it’s done preventatively.
By building up your reputation now, you’re able to lay a strong foundation before anything negative has a chance to dominate your search results.

The impact of your search results
Your online presence is critical to success in the business world today.
People spend hours and hours sweating over the smallest details in their resume,
but then forget about the very next place potential employers and clients look -- their search results. Even when someone gets your name via word of mouth,
their very next step is to look you up online and see what you’re about.
When people have negative results, they finally realize how many people
are actually Googling them. They realize this because they find themselves in the uncomfortable position of needing to defend themselves
to potential customers and employers.
They have to explain that old lawsuit or the story behind that nasty forum.
And there’s no way to recover from that negative first impression.
When people have irrelevant results, they don’t hear about it, because there’s nothing
for potential clients to complain out. But there’s nothing to impress them with either.
Clients and employers can’t find relevant information on you so you lose out on business opportunities. They look you up and find a forgettable, irrelevant reputation.
People with stellar search results are, to a certain extent, in the same boat as folks
with negative search results. They finally realize how many people are Googling them on
a regular basis, only this time it’s to the advantage of their business. It’s a no-brainer really. Relevant, kick-ass results that direct people to the right information
is bound to result in more business.

The best kind of insurance is one that brings in business.
And this isn’t just an idealistic notion. I’ve been actively managing my online reputation
for less than a year, and I’m already bringing in positive business for Brandyourself
thanks to my blog posts and active online presence. This stuff legitimately works.
That’s why we’ve started to take on more clients who are interested in these proactive,
branding-focused campaigns. They understand the benefit of maintaining a healthy smile,
and they understand the benefit of keeping their online reputation in pristine shape.
It’s the best kind of insurance policy --
one that brings more business in the door every single day.
You don’t wait until your teeth are gross before you decide to get a toothbrush.
So don’t wait until you have a negative search result
before you start managing your online reputation. Get started today.

4 things you can do today
1. Purchase your domain: Go on a site like GoDaddy.com, and buy the essential domains
with your name in it. (RyanErskine.com, .org, and .net for example). This is an incredibly important form of online insurance. Even if you don’t plan on building a website right now,
you’ll still prevent other people from taking this valuable piece of real estate away from you –
or using it against you in the future.
2. Get a personal website: Having a personal website is a terrific way to consolidate everything important into one central hub. You can put your resume, accolades, portfolio, biography, contact information and blog all in one place.
Plus, there’s nothing better than having your site come up when people search your name.
It’s the best way to direct potential clients and employers to the information that matters most.
Squarespace makes this easy with classy and professional themes.
If you don’t want to spend a $8 a month and are a bit tech savvy, you can make yourself a nice site for free on Wordpress. Alternatively, sign up for a site like About.me or Tumblr
and use your new domain as the custom domain.
3. Keep an active blog: There’s a lot of compelling information out there for why blogging
is a worthwhile investment. It can depict you as a thought leader in your industry
and bring in free business. It can earn you a loyal following and will build authority
on your website so it ranks well in search results. Write an article today
and put a reminder on your calendar to write another in two to four weeks.
Need some help coming up with effective article topics? Write down some trends
or innovations in your industry that are making you excited, worried or angry.
What lessons can you teach others about a recent event in your professional life?
Find some news articles in your niche you’d like to comment on or take in a new direction.
Or, write down some challenges in your industry.
