How To Grow Your LinkedIn Presence and Network

Moss growing successfully on a stone wall.

How To Grow Your LinkedIn Presence and Network
Jerome Knyszewski

I am a LinkedIn member: NOW WHAT?!
So many throw their hands up in the air, sigh and kick a can!
Being a LinkedIn member is NOT enough to further your career, boost your business,
get hot leads and cash in checks!

In the previous article we discussed how we all need to be active,
consistent and don't get side tracked to the point that we start wasting time
(opposed to INVESTING time on LinkedIn)

Here we will share few more actions that will help you in your networking efforts.
Get Connections
Profile Updates
Pulse your presence
Get Connections, at Least 500!
Why 500? because at 500, the LI counter displays 500+ which makes you look less "amateur".

We all know that we shouldn't judge a book by its cover,
well, we shouldn't doesn't mean that we don't. Perception is everything!
Having less than 500 reveals that you have a very small network,
and will be perceived as not very appealing, remember PERCEPTION IS EVERYTHING!
How to get at least 500 connections?
Some suggestions were brought up in the previous article,
but the easiest is to import contacts from your email, sync your phone contacts
and join a group of "LIONs" -LinkedIn Open Networkers-*
You will find many that agree and disagree on adding your contacts this way.
That's what I did and worked for me. However I urge you to be using all these options
with moderation and make sure that you don't end up pestering your friends,
family members and business contacts with a multitude of invitations.
Profile Updates:
Update your profile strategically on regular basis.
WHY? Because LinkedIn recommends you do. (That's the short answer)
The longer answer, is that LI has a TON of data
and most the time their suggestions are relevant and do boost my exposure.
Also when you update your profile, your network CAN get notified (use with discretion obviously)

If you STRATEGICALLY update your photo, or refine your summary or add a project or position,
once in a while let your network know.

Pulse Your Presence
Write, start writing, dare to write, dare to share!
Express yourself!
You are a wealth of experience, please start sharing it.
You would be surprised how much good it would do you!

Don't forget that you need to be in a GIVING mode when on LinkedIn,
so go and read other's posts and dare to interact, share your thoughts, tag the authors,
tag friends of yours that might benefit from the info you dug out.

Reciprocity will come your way in form of support and network growth.

WRITE and if you're not good at it, maybe get some help, someone that can assist you.
I'm French, so my articles might sound funny at times or my grammar might go sideways,
but all in all, it's real, that what LI users are looking for.
REAL FOLKS WITH REAL EXPERIENCE.
